ACTION will be taken against a Federal Islamic Development Department (Jakim) officer who criticised Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for banning Muslim-only launderettes in his state recently, said Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
The Jakim officer had, in a religious lecture over the weekend, said that it was wrong for the sultan to disallow the launderette and that the issue got blown up simply because the ruler spoke about it.
The officer, identified as Zamihan Mat Zin, was said to have crossed the line when he criticised the sultan in the religious lecture at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Shah Alam, for speaking out against a Muslim-only laundrette.
“The Home Ministry will investigate and take action,” Nur Jazlan told theSun.
It was reported that Zamihan was previously a religious officer with the Home Ministry, but was transferred to Jakim last year.
Zamihan said it was not the ruler’s right to declare that the Muslim-only laundrette would not be allowed in the state.
At the lecture, Zamihan also claimed that the Chinese are “unhygienic” and alleged that they do not wash up after urinating and defecating.
A Jakim representative also told theSun that it was investigating the matter.
Last month, Sultan Ibrahim told a Muslim-only launderette to be open to all customers or close shop.
This was after the launderette in Muar, Johor, put up a sign saying the shop was for Muslims only.
The owner quickly took down the sign and apologised to the sultan, explaining that it was just a marketing gimmick for his customers.
Earlier today, the Malay Rulers endorsed Sultan Ibrahim and the Perlis Raja Muda’s decision to forbid Muslim-only launderettes in their respective states, lauding the two monarchs for upholding moderation and inclusiveness.
The rulers said the Johor Sultan and Perlis Raja Musa’s stance had demonstrated their commitment to “ensure Muslims behave with respect, moderation and inclusiveness” in a country that is home to people of diverse faiths and ethnic groups. – October 10, 2017.
