No identity cards for Chinese nationals, says NRD

THE National Registration Department (NRD) has warned social media users against spreading fake news about MyKad being distributed to Chinese nationals.

The department, in a statement today, said it has not distributed any identity documents to the Chinese nationals as claimed on social media.

It said the social media posting that had gone viral was a document falsifying case in 2015 which had been investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in 2015.

The NRD was referring to a Facebook posting by one “Tam Abata IV” who claimed that the department had issued identity cards to Chinese nationals. The posting showed pictures of several MyKad owned by alleged Chinese nationals.

“The NRD states here that all of the MyKad which became viral are fake, and it wasn’t issued by this department.

“Every information, such as IC number, picture and fingerprints on those MyKad, does not exist in the NRD system,” the department said.

The NRD said members of the public must stop circulating those pictures on social media, in order to avoid confusion as well as potential public disorder.

“NRD reminds that legal action can be taken to stop the spread of inaccurate information by irresponsible individuals.” – August 30, 2019.

  • The irresponsible parties disseminating this fake news on the social media are fermenting interracial hostility and inciting racial hatred. The police and MCMC should take immediate action to identify them and charge them under the pertinent laws, failing which the spirit of Merdeka will be seen to be non-existent.
