PARTI Warisan Sabah Youth chief Azis Jamman has been remanded for five days, beginning today, to faciliate Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission investigations into the alleged embezzlement of RM1.5 billion in federal funds.

Tawau Umno Youth chief Ariffin Kassim, 44, and Tenom Umno Youth chief Jamawi Jaafar, 43, were also remanded for five days.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus granted the remand order today.

Azis was represented by a team of lawyers, led by Darrel Leiking.

The team also comprised Martin Tommy Cedric, Norazmi Alimat and Loretto Padua Jr.

Ariffin was represented by Hamid Ismail, while Jamawi was represented by Arthur Borine, Shahlan Jufri and Mohd Azhier Farhan.

MACC is probing the alleged embezzlement of RM1.5 billion in federal funds meant for Sabah’s rural development over a span of six years, from 2009 to 2015.

Fazli Basirudin was the commission’s prosecuting officer.

MACC had requested for a seven-day remand, but Cindy only agreed to five days.

The remand of Warisan vice-president Peter Anthony was extended by another three days.

His lawyer, Martin Tommy Duasim, said the remand was cut short due to his client’s medical condition.

“The MACC prosecuting officer had earlier requested for a seven-day remand, but we raised Anthony’s medical condition and the magistrate agreed to three days.”

The remand of a 54-year-old businessman arrested to facilitate the probe was extended by another four days. – October 10, 2017.
