THE cabinet’s approval in principle for motorcycle e-hailing services will serve to improve safety, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

“Even though there are parties who have expressed their concerns and opposition… we are also looking at it from the safety angle, in that, this is an opportunity for us to set up a safety framework… including for motorcyclists who deliver food, documents and so on.

“(Such services are) so far unregulated,” he told reporters after attending the Commuting Safety Support Programme at Wisma TNB in Seremban today.

He said there have been many complaints on motorcyclists speeding and riding in a dangerous manner.

“The government has decided to allow motorcycle e-hailing services, and is taking the opportunity to formulate regulations.

“So, we will take an approach similar to regulating car-based e-hailing services. We’ll discuss the matter with the various road safety agencies.” – Bernama, August 27, 2019.
