PUTRAJAYA, via the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), is seeking more than RM10.3 million in income tax from Nooryana Najwa Najib for the 2011-2017 period.
A writ of summons was filed on July 24, naming Nooryana, the daughter of former prime minister Najib Razak, as the defendant in a suit to claim RM10,335,292.36.
Case management has been set for September 12 before Shah Alam deputy registrar S.S. Malini Anne.
According to the writ, Nooryana’s income was recorded at RM2,430,694.74, RM26,613.24, RM6,011,957.64, RM271,832.92, RM48,526.98, RM137,595.21 and RM21,084.39 for each year from 2011 to 2017.
As she had failed to settle the income tax within 30 days of assessment notices being delivered, a 10% fine was levied, in line with Section 103 of the Income Tax Act 1967.
The 10% hike is recorded at RM243,069.47, RM2,661.32, RM601,195.76, RM27,183.29, RM4,852.69, RM13,759.52 and RM2,108.43 for each year from 2011 to 2017.
IRB said a further 5% hike was compounded after Nooryana failed to settle the payments due 60 days after the assessment notices were delivered.
The additional hike is recorded at RM133,688.21, RM1,463.72, RM330,657.67, RM14,950.81, RM2,668.98, RM7,567.73 and RM1,159.64 for each year from 2011 to 2017.
“The plaintiff has the right to recoup the income tax still owed, along with the increases imposed on the defendant as a tax that is due to be paid,” said the writ.
The RM10.3 million claim comes with a 5% interest per annum from the day of judgment until the sum is satisfied, as well as costs and any relief deemed appropriate by the court. – August 26, 2019.
