MALAYSIA must emphasise capacity-building and skill enhancement programmes to be successful, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Focus must be given to the nation’s talents and resources. And, I hope that we can produce a competitive, productive and relevant workforce for future needs,” the prime minister said at the MyPerintis 4th anniversary dinner in Petaling Jaya today.

MyPerintis, headed by Lawrence Low, is a civil society body that supports and provides opportunities for youth.

Dr Mahathir said as part of efforts to bring the nation forward, the new government would target initiatives for the country’s youth.

“In all these efforts, the youth figure prominently in all aspects of it, either directly or in initiatives aimed at empowering them,” he said.

“I hope that we will be able to harness all the positive values of youth – their idealism, enthusiasm, commitment and dedication.”

He said the government also remained committed to ensuring that the nation’s wealth is shared by all sections of society.

“As such, MyPerintis’ initiatives are consistent with our Shared Prosperity vision that aspires to ensure that the nation’s wealth and development is shared by all Malaysians,” said Dr Mahathir. – August 23, 2019.
