DR Zakir Naik today filed a second police report against Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy over “abusive” words that allegedly slandered the Muslim preacher from India.

Zakir’s lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader said Ramasamy had slandered his client in an interview with an Indian TV news channel.

“Today we made a second police report to Ramasamy regarding his interview with India Today,” Akberkadin said in Bukit Aman today.

“Among the abusive words used against Zakir were ‘venomous’, ‘defraudster’, ‘trickster’ and ‘hate monger’, which are clearly defamatory

“Tomorrow I will send Ramasamy a letter of demand regarding his statement.”

The lawyer was at federal police headquarters with Zakir, who was there to give the cops his statement with regard to an earlier report he filed against the Penang deputy chief minister and four other elected representatives for slander.

Ramasamy, Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran, Klang MP Charles Santiago, Bagan Dalam assemblyman, former Malaysian ambassador Dennis Ignatius had been among those who had called for the Indian national to be repatriated home after Zakir made provocative remarks about the Hindu and Chinese communities in Malaysia.

Zakir, whose comments caused outrage among many Malaysians, charge that his words were taken out of context and that the five of them had smeared and damaged his reputation and credibility.

He has, however, apologised to Malaysians for the comments.

Zakir, who is a permanent resident here, is also under investigation over the same comments. He was questioned twice in a week by the police, who have classified the case as insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.

He is wanted back home in India to answer charges of money-laundering, inciting terrorism and making hate speech.

Prime Minister Dr Mohamad today said Zakir would be allowed to remain in Malaysia. – August 22, 2019.
