ZAKIR Naik today spent five hours at Bukit Aman, where he was questioned over remarks he made at an event in Kelantan last weekend.

The Mumbai-born preacher arrived at the federal police headquarters about 3pm and left at 8.15pm.

He did not stop to speak to the media. Three people were seen inside his vehicle.

It is learnt that he was grilled by federal police’s Prosecution/Law Division, or D5.

Yesterday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said police will call up Zakir, as well as Chinese education group Dong Zong and tycoon Koon Yew Yin, for questioning on separate matters.

He said several other people have already been questioned and are under police observation, adding that further action, including charges under Section 504 of the Penal Code, will be taken if there is sufficient evidence.

Section 504 covers insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and is punishable with up to two years’ jail, or a fine, or both.

According to Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed, 115 police reports have been lodged against Zakir over the statements he made in Kelantan, and six reports against Dong Zong.

It was previously reported that two investigation papers have been opened against the preacher – one on his allegedly anti-Indian comments, and the other on his remarks about the Chinese community.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said Zakir’s permanent resident status can be revoked if he does something that is detrimental to the country’s well-being.

Malaysia has so far refused to extradite the preacher despite a request by his home country of India, where he is wanted for money-laundering, hate speech and inciting terrorism. – August 16, 2019.
