An appeal to deport Zakir Naik

ZAKIR Naik’s presence here in Malaysia is dangerous. If he continues to live here, the religious and racial harmony built on the sacrifice of many through their blood, toil and tears will be broken apart.

For him to misquote the “fact” that most Chinese were born in China and are guests in this land shows his innate and cunning ability to twist and turn facts to favour his views. If he can do this with one fact, he can also do this with many other facts in his so-called “comparative religion”.

Anyone knowledgeable about their own religion can testify that Zakir’s comparative religion reasonings are skewed and flawed. Of course, to Muslims unfamiliar with Hinduism and Christianity, he only appears to be knowledgeable.

His brand of Islam does not bring multicultural and multiracial communities in Malaysia together. Instead, he is a divisive figure. Please, I appeal to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his ministers to send him away for the sake of the 32 millions rakyat of Malaysia. The role of the government is to protect her own citizens, not to protect a foreigner who has caused so much trouble to this beloved country, just because he carries the badge of being a Muslim “evangelist”.

He has not brought peace to Malaysia but only animosity and suspicion. Malaysia has many better Muslim preachers of her own. We do not need him to break our fragile relationships apart.

I understand, dear Dr Mahathir, that you are concerned for his life and safety. But I hope you are concerned about the lives and safety of Malaysia’s 32 million citizens more. Don’t sacrifice the rakyat for him. The rakyat has stood by this country through thick and thin, and has contributed to the building of Malaysia through the years.

I sincerely appreciate your kind consideration.

Thank you. – August 15, 2019.

  • Tun says that he fears for Zakir Naik's life if he is sent back to India. But what happens if his lectures incites a riot that kills malaysians? Of the many islamic scholars that we can listen and learn from, definitely Zakir Naik is not one of them.
