GHAUTH Jasmon has been appointed the new chairman of Universiti Putra Malaysia’s board of directors.

The Education Ministry, in a statement today, said Ghauth’s appointment was part of efforts to ensure that the target of making UPM one of the world’s 100 best universities could be achieved within the next two years.

“The ministry viewed him as the most suitable person to hold the post based on his good reputation in managing and administering a university, including when he was Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor,” it said.

According to the ministry, the decision to appoint Ghauth was made after taking into account the views of various parties at UPM.
