OTAI Reformis has urged the police to quickly conclude investigations into the sex video involving former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and which has implicated Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Group deputy chairman Mustapa Mansur said the issue had gone on for a long time causing public aggravation.
“Experts have carried out facial recognition and, despite that, they have been unable to identify the two men.
“Haziq was remanded for police investigations, but his intimate partner was left free,” he said at a press conference today.
Mustapa said this move (not to arrest Haziq’s partner) has raised questions as the offence was carnal intercourse against the order of nature, under the Penal Code.
Mustapha said they were perplexed and frustrated as to why the person mentioned was not called or detained for the police investigation.
He said that Haziq had already admitted that he was in the video and named Azmin as the other.
Azmin has continued to deny any involvement in the video.
“The delay of the police to conclude the investigation would have a negative impact on their credibility.”
Otai Reformis secretary Abdul Razak Ismail said the police’s ability to conduct the investigation must not be questioned.
“If we can recall the incident of a family that was robbed and there was CCTV recording, it took less than two days for the robbers to get caught.
“However, in the case of this video the picture quality is very clear and who the actors are,” he said.
He said police should focus on the spread of the video and investigate the act, which is also an offence.
“Remember performing unnatural sex is also an offence, we are not a disputing (police investigation), we are just asking why not investigate this as well. The police should not only focus on one area,” he said.
However, Mustapa denied that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s supporters were blaming the police, more the group wanted to see them carry out their duties diligently.
“We do not want to blame police, we are not anti-police, but we want to see the police integrity is respected without any different interpretations.
“Just follow the procedures. In our opinion, to date the police has done a good job. We just want them to be more transparent.”
Last week, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador confirmed that Cybersecurity Malaysia had found the video to be authentic, but the facial recognition process failed to establish the identity of either of the men involved.
Haziq and Perak PKR chairman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak were remanded to assist in the investigation, but both have been released. – July 26, 2019.
