AN ACADEMIC pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam Session’s Court this morning for allegedly using his position to obtain gratification in organising a shariah compliant event in 2016.
According to the charge sheet, Mohd Nor Mamat from the Islamic Contemporary Faculty at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) misused his position in registering a company using the institution’s Integrated Consultancy Systems (Icons) to hold the International Shariah Compliant Idea, Innovation and Design 2016 event.

Justice Mohd Sabri Ismail set bail at RM15,000 in one surety, ordered the accused to surrender his passport and fixed August 26 for next mention of the case.
Nor was charged with using office or position for gratification under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and faces up to 20 years in prison, a RM10,000 fine or both, if convicted.
Nor was represented by counsel Fahmi Abd Moin while the prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Suffian Ja’afar. – July 25, 2019.
