INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Abdul Hamid Bador today said the police acted within the ambit of the law in arresting Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak over leaked sex videos implicating a minister.

Hamid said Farhash’s arrest was a necessary part of investigations.

“I would not allow my men to do as they like in any case. I don’t see this case as being unfair to anyone.

“I would like to state again that I, as the IGP, do not wish to become involved in any political polemic, unless I am accused  (without basis),” he said in Malacca this afternoon.

Farhash, who is also political secretary to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, yesterday questioned the justification for his arrest.

Farhash said the police had “taken away his liberty’ in arresting him without justification.

“I don’t look like Azmin Ali. Why can’t they just call me and have my statement recorded? They chose to detain me like some murderer,” he told reporters after he was released from remand.

Former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Haziz, who has admitted to being the other man in the sex clips purportedly also showing Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, was also released from remand today.

Farhash and Haziq were arrested last week.

Azmin said the sex videos were a conspiracy to end his political career.

Hamid said the attorney-general would decide if there was a need to arrest Azmin after studying the investigation papers on the sex video scandal.

“The matter is being handled by the investigation team. Let them do their job,” he said. – July 24, 2019.
