THE sessions court judge arrested yesterday will be remanded for two days, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Latheefa Koya confirmed with The Malaysian Insight today.
The 45-year-old judge was arrested in Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor, yesterday for investigations into racket that also comprises a lawyer, deputy public prosecutor and police officers who allegedly accepted bribes in exchange for the release of illegal immigrants.
The judge was brought to Putrajaya Hospital where he is being treated for chest pains and was remanded there.
Latheefa yesterday said the judge was part of the illegal immigrant racket.
Last week, the agency arrested eight people in the same case – a deputy public prosecutor, a lawyer and police officers.
The police officers are a corporal, a sergeant, investigating officers and a court policeman.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 16(A)(B) of the MACC Act for bribery.
The Malaysian Insight broke the story with a report that MACC found RM17,500 on the lawyer, who is said to have facilitated the release of nine illegals.
Another RM85,000, believed to be from illegal activities, was seized from the DPP. – July 23, 2019.
