WATER supply to 77% of the areas in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur affected by diesel pollution in Sg Selangor was restored as at 6am today.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd consumer relations and communications head Abdul Raof Ahmad said supply to the affected areas in Gombak and Kuala Selangor has been restored to 94% and 90%, respectively.

“Supply to the affected Kuala Lumpur areas has been restored to 82%, Klang/Shah Alam (75%), Petaling (70%), Hulu Selangor (47%) and Kuala Langat (39%).

“The restoration process is ongoing. The target of 100% restoration for all areas is 9am on Saturday,” he said in a statement.

He said water tankers have been deployed and 24-hour one-stop service centres activated to provide assistance to consumers.

More than a million customer accounts were affected by unscheduled supply disruptions on Friday and Sunday, following the shutdown of four water treatment plants.

In the first incident, the facilities halted operations after a foul odour was detected in Sg Selangor. In the second, they closed after a diesel spill was reported in the river, and restarted operations at 3.30am yesterday. – Bernama, July 23, 2019.
