PAS splitting Malay votes so BN can win, says Dr Mahathir

DR Mahathir Mohamad renewed his attack on PAS today accusing the party of dividing Malay votes to hand Umno/Barisan Nasional the win in the 14th general election.

The former prime minister said PAS will lure anti-government voters to vote for them in three-cornered fights, which will result in fewer votes for Pakatan Harapan (PH), especially in rural seats with mostly Malay voters.

“The fact that PAS will lose is fine with them because PAS’ ambition is for Najib Razak to win. Why are they doing this? Did ‘dedak’ (bribe) play a role?

“This is the role and desire of PAS ever since its inception. It has no possibility to win and form government even if it contests a hundred times,” the Pakatan Harapan chairman said in his blog chedet.cc today.

He also said PAS’ victory in Kelantan would only bring bad luck to the state and spoil the name of Islam.

“Whether it was planned or not, this is the result of PAS’ recovery. I know that the truth will make PAS extremists very angry but the truth is the truth even though it is hard to listen to,” said Dr Mahathir.

In his posting titled ‘Perjuangan PAS yang sebenar’, he said that it was only after the formation of PAS that the Malays were split as Umno supporters were labelled as non-believers.

“The split was so bad that some considered their parents as non-believers and considered their marriage illegal.

“They don’t even realise by making such statements PAS had rendered them as illegitimate children,” he said.

He said prior to PAS’ existence, Malays were of the Mazhab Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah under the Shafie school of Islamic laws.

“There was no split or difference in understanding of Islam among them,” he added.

The split, he said, had caused division in prayers and funerals between PAS and non-PAS supporters while even animal slaughtered by non-PAS members cannot be consumed by PAS followers.

“Then came Hadi Awang with his amanat that makes it kosher (halal) to kill members of the administration because the government of Malaysia comprise of non-believers.

“More than that, they regard those who oppose the government as jihadists and their death is considered syahid,” he said, adding that it eventually led to the Memali tragedy where four policemen were killed and many wounded in the confrontation with Ibrahim Libya’s supporters.

Dr Mahathir also pointed out that when PAS cooperated with DAP, they regarded that as ‘tahaluf siyasi’ (political cooperation), which is different from Umno’s cooperation with MCA and MIC.

“The truth is, there is no difference whatsoever. There are terms in PAS’ cooperation with DAP. Similarly, Umno’s cooperation with MCA and MIC also has terms,” said Dr Mahathir, adding that PAS continues to drive the wedge among Muslims by making the party’s followers pledge loyalty to the leadership and party, which is against the religion. – October 3, 2017.
