POLICE have identified elements of sabotage in the pollution of Sg Selangor, which disrupted water supply to millions of Klang Valley households, Dr Xavier Jayakumar said.

The water, land and resources minister tweeted that he was told this by police investigating the recent pollution incidents.

“I have been informed that elements of sabotage have been identified by police from their investigations,” he tweeted.

Xavier also posted a press statement issued by the National Water Services Commission (Span) today, in which its chairman, Charles Santiago, said the water regulator has lodged a police report this morning over two pollution incidents in the last three days.

Earlier, Xavier said he had also asked the police to investigate the incidents and had spoken about it to the inspector-general of police.

It is not clear which of the two incidents are said to have elements of sabotage, as Span’s press statement had noted two separate cases.

The first one that caused the shutdown of water treatment plants on Friday involved a strong odour, while the second yesterday involved diesel spillage from sand mining upstream.

The Malaysian Insight is also checking the matter with the police. – July 22, 2019.
