POLICE have extended the remand period for Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak for a further three days until July 23.

Federal police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Huzir Mohamed confirmed with The Malaysian Insight that they have extended the remand for Haziq and Farhash, along with two others who were arrested in connection with the viral sex video which implicates a cabinet minister.

Huzir also revealed that one other man, who was arrested today, was also let go after being held.

The remand period for Farhash and Haziq expired today and they were anticipated to be let go. However, police had applied for a remand extension at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court to further investigate the videos which were circulated.

Farhash’s lawyer Baldip Singh confirmed this with The Malaysian Insight.

“The investigating officer made the application at the court; we objected to it but the court approved the extension beginning from tomorrow,” he said.

“Police gave the excuse that they want to find the original video and other additional evidence,” he said.

Baldip managed to meet Farhash, who is Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary, at 11am today.

“I saw him just now. He is in a healthy condition.

“We couldn’t see him or contact him while he was in remand this last week. Police are using their absolute power to ignore Section 28 without any reason,” he claimed.

Section 28A(8)(9) of the Criminal Procedure Code entails blocking an applicant’s right of counsel with his legal team.

On Thursday, the high court maintained the six-day remand order for Haziq that will end today, while reducing the remand order for the five to four days. – July 20, 2019.
