THE Election Commission (EC) wants voter education to be included in schools, said chairman Azhar Azizan Harun.
“We want to introduce a module about voter registration as soon as possible. In Australia, this starts at Year 3 or nine years old.
“We want to discuss with the Education Ministry to insert information on democracy and the election process into schools.”
He said the contents of the module will only be finalised upon the agreement of political parties from both sides.
“We want bipartisan support for this. We want an independent and neural module to avoid being accused of attempting to indoctrinate students.”
Azhar was speaking to reporters after the EC’s “Make a Change, Let’s Do It Together” campaign in Putrajaya today. – July 18, 2019.
