FORMER PKR political aide Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and five others will challenge their remand by the police in relation to investigations into a widely circulated sex video, their lawyer said.

Lawyers acting for the men have filed a revision application at the Kuala Lumpur High Court under Section 323 of the Criminal Procedure Code to review the six-day remand allowed by the magistrates’ court.

Their lead counsel, Ramesh Sivakumar, said a hearing has been schedule for tomorrow morning before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah.

The six men were arrested by police on Sunday, and the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court allowed their remand the following day.

The men are being probed under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for distributing pornography.

The remand follows Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador’s remarks on Saturday that police had identified the mastermind behind the production and circulation of the sex clips.

Hamid said it was possible that politicians and a pressure group were involved in the case.

“We have found evidence of a conspiracy and a plot by certain quarters in the production and circulation of the sex videos implicating a minister (aimed) to topple someone,” he had said.

Last month, a series of clips showing two men engaging in sexual acts were released on WhatsApp.

Haziq subsequently said he was one of the men in the videos, and that Economics Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali was the other.

Azmin had denied the claims, calling the affair a conspiracy to ruin his career. PKR has since sacked Haziq. – July 16, 2019.
