THE two women accused of murdering Kim Jong-nam have pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam High Court, where their trial began this morning.

Indonesian Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong were charged with killing Jong-nam, the elder half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, by smearing his face with VX, a banned poison, at klia2 on February 13.

The charge was read to them in Indonesian and Vietnamese at 9.17am.

Their lawyers earlier said the charge was unclear, and sought to have four North Koreans allegedly involved in the murder listed in the charge sheet as well.

In the opening statement after the charges were read, the prosecution said among its witnesses are experts who will explain the cause of death and the circumstantial evidence surrounding Jong-nam’s death.

The team will also prove that both accused had the intention to kill Jong-nam.

The prosecution said the four North Koreans still at large were also responsible for Jong-nam’s death as they had supervised the action of both accused as recorded on CCTV footage. – October 2, 2017.
