UMNO will not join Bersatu so long as the government is controlled by DAP, said party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said although Umno was open to offers, it could not accept Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s invitation to join his party.

“It’s unacceptable that DAP controls the government now. More so, when it wants to realise its Malaysian Malaysia agenda,” the Umno president told reporters in Parliament today.

“We cannot accept offers from any party that is still working with DAP. This is Umno and Barisan Nasional’s official position,” said Zahid on Dr Mahathir’s invitation for Malay parties to join Bersatu for the sake of Malay unity.

Umno, which is the biggest opposition party now, has made DAP its main focus of attack since losing the last elections.

Dr Mahathir invited all Malay parties, including Umno, to join Bersatu in efforts to unite the Malays last Friday.

“If we are split, we become weak, united we stand, divided we fall (bercerai roboh, bersatu teguh). (But) we find that there are people forming new parties, (now) we have become six, soon there will be 10, (then) 100.

“(If) There are 30 people in one party, How to win (the election),” he said after the Johor Bersatu Aidilfitri open house at the Dewan Serbaguna Johor Jaya last week.

Zahid has rebuffed Dr Mahathir’s invitation.

Last Saturday, Zahid dismissed the invitation, and said Bersatu and Amanah should be disbanded in the interest of Malay unity.

Zahid said Umno would not cooperate with any party or leader who has close relationships with a party that neglects Malays and Islam.

Bersatu and Amanah’s partner in PH is DAP, which is accused by Umno and its affiliates of seeking to undermine Malay interests.

“We do not want a split in the Malay community but a reason for that is the existence of parties like Bersatu and Amanah. The best solution is to disband Bersatu and Amanah. – July 8, 2019.

  • And you, the corrupt person who has blatantly robbed your own people now talk morally about not cooperating with a party that only want this country to progress irrespective of race. That means if Malays need most help, then they will get the most help. Your days are numbered and you can continue this discourse for a while longer. Enjoy the feeling of being important a while longer. UMNO might also be no more soon
