DO NOT use religion as an excuse for refusing to declare assets, Minister of Religious Affairs Mujahid Yusof Rawa has told PAS.

“No. 1: don’t use Islam (as a reason), if you don’t want to do it (declare assets). It is akin to using religion to make a false statement,” he said.

“Second, don’t accuse other parties.”

He told reporters on the sidelines of the Street Raya event in Kuala Lumpur today that it was difficult to deduce where the Islamist party stood on asset declaration because its leaders were prone to U-turns on policy.

He also added that the bill to compel MPs to declare their assets was a collective decision of all Pakatan Harapan parties, not just DAP.

Mujahid was responding to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement that asset declaration was derived from the socialist-Communist philosophies of DAP.

“All parties including PAS had agreed to it in the past. Why all of a sudden DAP is accused?” he said, taking a swipe at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement that asset declaration was derived from the socialist-Communist philosophies of DAP.

“When I was in opposition, I declared my assets, so does that make me a Communist? Of course not, I fulfilled my responsibilities,” said the Parit Buntar MP. – July 6, 2019.
