FORENSIC expert Prof Shahrom Abdul Wahid, who disputed other testimonies on the cause of Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s injuries, will be recalled to the inquest into the fireman’s death following riots at a Hindu temple last year.
Deputy public prosecutor Faten Hadni Khairuddin told the press at the inquest this morning that Shahrom will be recalled.
The former academic previously testified that Adib was attacked and beaten by other persons and died from injuries he sustained during rioting on November 26 at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ.
Shahrom’s testimony conflicted with that of two other witnesses, also forensic experts, who said Adib’s death was due to injuries sustained after falling out of an emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) van.
Shahrom was a former senior forensic and pathology expert at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM).
Meanwhile, the Housing and Local Government Ministry has appointed four new lawyers to represent the ministry and the Fire and Rescue Department, which comes under its jurisdiction.
The ministry appointed Suzana Atan, Mazlifah Ayob, Afiq Zainal Abidin and Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Rafngah.
This follows Syazlin Mansor’s move to quit last month as the ministry’s lawyer due to conflict of interest as she had also represented the Fire Department and Adib’s family simultaneously.
She was at the inquest today, having returned to represent Adib’s family only.
“Syazlin is with the family. The Attorney-General’s Chambers have no issue with her representing Adib’s family. The AGC was only concern with her representing the ministry and the Fire Department,” said Faten.
She said the inquest would also call a physics expert to explain the likely scenarios that happened to Adib.
“A physics expert will be called. We will need his opinion on the force and what possibly occurred to the victim. If there is no issue, the expert will be called up on July 16 and 17.
“The expert can be anyone from the government or from the private sector or university as long as he or she is capable enough to give an explanation.”
The inquest is seeking to determine how Adib suffered the injuries that killed him 21 days later after he was hospitalised following the riots.
The Shah Alam coroner’s court today also set July 3, 4 and 5 as new dates for the inquest. – June 26, 2019.
