THE Registrar of Societies (RoS) will launch an investigation into Umno over allegations that it had received 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) money, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said even though the RoS is under the jurisdiction of his ministry, he is not involved in its investigation, adding that he will not be part of a probe, if any, on Umno.

“If the RoS gets a report, it will investigate. There must be strong facts to back it up,” he told reporters during the Immigration Department’s Raya celebrations today.

“I haven’t seen the reports but it’s up to the different agencies to work on them. It’s out of my jurisdiction.”

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today filed a forfeiture suit against seven entities and individuals under Section 56 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The suit is part of the effort to forfeit RM270 million from 41 entities and individuals, of which RM212 million was believed to have been given to Umno.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said his ministry has agreed with the police’s proposal to raise wages for lower ranking officers.

“We have received these requests and the police have said that the wages for the lower officers is too low. But we have to see the circumstances and the financial condition of the country.

“I hope they will be patient. From the ministry’s perspective, we support a wage hike for police but it has to be brought to the Public Services Commission and other agencies first.

“There is basis for their request for wage hike and allowances for certain positions. We have to see how it goes before we bring the proposal to the cabinet.” – June 25, 2019.
