PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin was in the meeting that decided not to sack Santubong youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and she should abide by that, a party leader said today.
Secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Zuraida had attended the meeting where a collective decision was made to allow Haziq to remain in the party, despite his confession to being in a sex video with a man he alleged was Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
“It was a collective decision. It is better that she respects the decision that was made collectively.
“The decision by the party’s disciplinary board was raised. It was debated, the pros and cons were looked at, and in the end, we reached a collective decision,” Saifuddin told reporters in Putrajaya today.
He was referring to a meeting of the political bureau that discussed the proposed action by the disciplinary board.
The disciplinary board had decided to issue Haziq a show-cause letter. It is not clear if he has replied.
Azmin, meanwhile, has denied the sex video, and has lodged police and qazaf (slander) reports.
Zuraida, who is a strong supporter of Azmin, has repeatedly called for Haziq’s sacking.
Yesterday, she reiterated her call, adding that if she was party president, the youth leader would have been fired already.
Saifuddin today said the political bureau will discuss calls for disciplinary action against Zuraida, if any are raised at its next meeting.
Party president Anwar Ibrahim had said that no action would be taken against Haziq.
He also cleared Azmin, allowing him to remain as deputy president, and condemning the sex video as gutter politics.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad also said Azmin could keep his cabinet post as the sex video was an attempt to destroy the Gombak MP’s political career. – June 25, 2019.
