HAZIQ Abdullah Abdul Aziz has dared Mohamed Azmin Ali to take legal action against him if the economic affairs minister is confident of his own innocence, reported The Star today.
The Santubong PKR Youth chief, who had sensationally claimed that he was the man in a sex video with Azmin which went viral two weeks ago, also challenged the PKR deputy president to lodge a police report against him.
He noted that Azmin had never made a police report against him but his political secretary Muhammad Hilman Idham did.
“I am not a liar. I want the matter to be brought open in the court so that Malaysians can see for themselves the evidence. Malaysians would then be able to see who’s telling the truth,” Haziq told the paper in his latest media interview.
The former senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said that Azmin had made wrongful accusations against him.
“In fact, I am a victim of the situation. If I am defaming him, he has all the right to sue me in a court of law,” he told the Star.
Azmin has denied being the man in the video with Haziq. He claimed to be a victim of slander, saying that the video was the work of parties seeking to destroy his political career.
He also claimed to have only had minimal contact with Haziq and denied reports that the two were close.
However, Haziq told The Malaysian Insight that he had known Azmin from his days as an undergraduate in Universiti Malaya and had grown close to the veteran politician from 2014.
“I first got to know Azmin from when I was studying at Universiti Malaya. I assisted in Azmin’s election campaign when he was challenged by Khalid Ibrahim,” he said, referring to the former Selangor menteri besar.
In an interview with The Malaysian Insight two days ago, Haziq denied that he was paid to make accusations against Azmin or that he tried to escape when he was detained by police at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport last week.
He said he was stressed following the leak of the video clips and wanted a short holiday in Manila.
He also denied that he had been paid millions of ringgit to admit to being the man with Azmin in the videos.
Haziq and Azmin had been questioned by police, who had formed a task force to investigate the case.
CID chief Huzir Mohamad had said that Haziq is under investigation for four offences, including sodomy and distribution of obscene material.
“He is being investigated under Section 377B for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities.
“He is also being investigated under Section 292 of the Penal Code for the sale or otherwise of obscene material, and Section 504 for the intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace,” he said. – June 23, 2019.
