TERENGGANU Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has secured one of the party’s vice-presidents’ posts after incumbent Iskandar Samad declined to contest.
Two other incumbents returning unopposed are Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohamad Amar Nik Abdullah and former Bukit Gantang MP Idris Ahmad.
The announcement was made by the party’s central election committee chairman Mohd Fuad Mohd Salleh during the 65th PAS muktamar in Kuantan today.
Party president Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, also retained their posts unopposed.
However, the election for PAS’ 2019-2022 term central committee members is set to see some contest.
Meanwhile, Iskandar told reporters he decided not to contest to allow a more high-profile candidate to fill the coveted post.
“The vice-president posts should be filled with high-profile individuals, such as Samsuri, who is a menteri besar; Nik Amar, who is a deputy menteri besar; and, Idris is also a seasoned member. It should be held by high-profile individuals.”
Iskandar did, however, agree to accept his nomination to the PAS central committee. – June 21, 2019.
