ABDUL Hadi Awang has taken a swipe at PKR over its failure to act against Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz who had tarnished the party’s image by admitting he was purportedly having a relationship with Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The Islamist party president said if a similar case had hit PAS, he would not only have quit as its leader but would have dissolved the party.
“PAS rejects party leaders who are involved in immoral activity. We will not name anyone by name, but if any of my people did this, I will quit.
”Just dissolve the party… for us, moral values are the basis of our struggle and our faithfulness. Our self-worth keeps us going. We may lose in general elections but we will never give up on our struggle,” he said when addressing the party’s Youth congress today.
The Marang MP warned that the Islamist party will expel any member involved in immoral activities.
Hadi did not directly name Haziq or PKR, but it was clear that the PAS chief was referring to the party which is embroiled in a sex scandal.
Yesterday, despite calls from some sections of PKR to expel Haziq, the party disciplinary board said it had given the Santubong Youth chief 14 days to respond to a show cause letter over his sex tape.
PKR disciplinary board chairman Ahmad Kassim said the party disciplinary board convened a meeting on Sunday over the issue.
Azmin had denied the claim and said the accusation was done by party insiders who were out to ruin his political career.
Although the disciplinary board had taken steps to get Haziq to explain his claim, Azmin’s supporters are demanding that his accuser be expelled from the party immediately.
Haziq last week said he was the man in a video allegedly showing him having sex with Azmin, which had been widely shared on social media.
He later lodged a police report to defend himself from accusations that he had a political agenda behind his confession.
The report lodged at the Kelana Jaya police station last Thursday was confirmed by Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief Fadzil Ahmat to The Malaysian Insight.
Haziq had claimed he had had multiple sexual encounters with Azmin over the past three years.
Azmin is also facing calls to take leave from official duties until police investigations into the sex clips are complete.
Last Friday, however, party president Anwar Ibrahim said no action would be taken against deputy president Azmin or Haziq to avoid worsening the situation.
Haziq and Azmin have been questioned by police.
Police had formed a task force to investigate the case and CID chief Huzir Mohamad had said that Haziq is being investigated for sodomy and distribution of obscene material.
Huzir added that Haziq will be probed for a total of four offences.
“He is being investigated under Section 377B for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities.
“He is also being investigated under Section 292 of the Penal Code for the sale or otherwise of obscene material, and Section 504 for the intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace,” the Bukit Aman CID chief was quoted as saying. – June 20, 2019.
