Why hasn’t PKR sacked Haziq, asks Zuraida

PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin today questioned the party’s failure to take action against Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, a party youth chief who said he is having an intimate relationship with minister and party No. 2 Azmin Ali.

“The confession is enough for PKR to take action to sack Haziq instantly.

“This is different to the other party (Azmin) implicated in the case, as he had denied and lodged a police report.

“As such it is all right to wait until the police complete their investigation,” she said in a statement today.

She said she was surprised by the reactions and stand of several PKR leaders on the matter.

Haziq was suspended from his duties as the private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries and Commodities Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

Haziq has been arrested and questioned by the police over the sex clips. The police have also recorded Azmin’s statement.

The Economic Affairs Minister has denied being in the video, claiming it to be a plot by hidden hands in the party to end his political career.

“The failure of the party leaders to take action in this matter shows as if they are allowing the perception and calls that there are hidden hands pulling the strings in all this,” said Zuraida, who has long been held as a close Azmin ally.

“It shows there is weakness in the present leadership of the party, especially those appointed to central positions and state, who have failed to digest the meaning of ‘Reformasi’.

“There are also those who have a dubious background (in the party),” said Zuraida.

She said the whole episode would have a major impact on people’s confidence in PKR, adding that Haziq had made it worse by implicating several party leaders in the process.

“I urge a thorough and proper investigation by the authorities to determine the authenticity of the video clip and find the culprits who planned its distribution,” she said.

Zuraida said she would also raise the matter during the party’s political bureau meeting to be held later today.

“The country at present must be focused on building investors’ confidence to boost the economy.

“Political conspiracy like this will only hamper the rehabilitation process planned by the Pakatan Harapan government, and will never bring about the change needed to help the people,” she said. – June 19, 2019.
