POLICE may call in more PKR members to facilitate its investigation into the sex video scandal that has ensnared Mohamed Azmin Ali and Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz.
“If needed, we will call those necessary to assist us. Let us look at it first,” Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Mansor said today.
Mazlan confirmed that police had recorded PKR deputy president Azmin’s statement yesterday but did not elaborate.
“He was called yesterday but I cannot reveal any other information,” he said.
This morning, Azmin’s lawyer, N. Surendran, said the economic affairs minister had given his statement to the police over the scandal in which he has been implicated.
Surendran said Azmin is prioritising the matter and has complied with all police requests.
Santubong Youth chief Haziq last week confessed via a Facebook video to being one of the men in the video, and named Azmin as the other individual.
“The video was made without my permission on May 11 during the Sandakan by-election in (the minister’s) room at Hotel Four Points.
“I urge the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate (the minister) for corruption. He is an individual unfit to be a leader,” Haziq had said in the video.
Haziq, who has been suspended from his duties as an aide to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, was arrested as he was about to board a flight to Manila, the Philippines, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Friday.
He was released on police bail on Sunday.
Azmin has issued statements denying Haziq’s allegation, describing it as “vicious libel”.
He had said he has instructed his lawyers to take action against Haziq and others involved.
Azmin’s political secretary, Muhammad Hilman Idham, had lodged two police reports over the matter.
Yesterday, Mazlan said the force had recorded 21 statements in connection with the probe.
Seventeen police reports have been lodged over the video, which had gone viral since it was first shared via WhatsApp last Tuesday. – June 18, 2019.
