A 3-YEAR-OLD Orang Asli remains in critical condition at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital’s (HRPZII) paediatric intensive care unit.

Hospital director Dr Selasawati Ghazali told reporters in Kota Baru yesterday that Nasri Rosli has been hospitalised for the past eight days and is breathing with the help of a ventilator.

She said the toddler’s father, Rosli Jong, 30, was also admitted due to a lung infection, but has been declared free of the illness.

However, he still being monitored, she said.

Earlier, it was reported that Nasri, from Kg Kuala Koh, Gua Musang, was admitted to HRPZII for lung inflammation, or pneumonia, on June 9.

Meanwhile, Rosli said he is thankful to be declared free of the illness, but is sad that his son is still in the PICU.

He said Nasri, the youngest of five siblings, was first admitted to Kuala Krai Hospital, before being sent to HRPZII.

“I’m sad that my son is still depending on the ventilator. I am scared for him, as several Orang Asli have died from the infection.”

Rosli said he does not know what exactly caused the illness in the village, but added that residents had used water “from the hills” that was contaminated.

“As a result, I was warded at HRPZII for six days after experiencing headache, sore throat and chest pains that made breathing difficult.” – Bernama, June 17, 2019.
