PKR president Anwar Ibrahim today denied he had a role in the circulation of sex videos purportedly showing his deputy Mohamed Azmin Ali engaged in sex acts with another man.
Anwar said he did not not view Azmin as a threat to the succession plan that he and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had agreed upon.
“There is already slander, and it cannot be resolved by another slander,” Anwar told reporters in Port Dickson last night.
“What would be the reason (for my involvement)?”
Some believe Anwar’s supporters to be behind the widely-circulated sex videos. They surmise the clips are a ploy to take down Azmin, who is seen to be Dr Mahathir’s close ally.
But Anwar dismissed the rumours saying that there was no reason for him or his supporters to attack Azmin as he was secure in his position as the next prime minister.
“A threat? We already have an agreement about my position (as the future PM) and the PM himself said this as recently as last week,” said the Port Dickson MP.
Anwar also said that all four parties in Pakatan Harapan support him as the incoming prime minister.
“PKR, DAP, Amanah and Bersatu have given their support. So there are no problems here,” he said.
Azmin has denied being the person in the three-minute video clip that also featured PKR Santubong youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz.
The economic affairs minister said earlier today that police have contacted him for his statementsafter several police reports were lodged about the sex clips. – June 16, 2019.
