MOHAMAD Hasan has brushed off claims that the party is without direction, saying it is party veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s personal opinion.

The acting Umno president said the party is clear about its direction forward, that is to prepare for the 15th general election after its stunning defeat in last year’s polls.

“I’ve already explained our direction is to strengthen Umno and to have a strategy to win the next general election,” he said when met at his open house in Rembau, Negri Sembilan today.

“If he said the party lacks direction, that is his opinion.”

Tengku Razaleigh in a recent interview with The Malaysian Insight said Umno is still clueless about its direction more than a year after it lost power.

Although Tengku Razaleigh was appointed chairman of Umno’s council of advisers last July, the Gua Musang MP said he has not done anything.

“I haven’t done anything yet as I don’t know what direction Umno leaders want to set for the party.

“Everyone is going in different directions and there’s no certainty as to where the party should go.

“Some want to work with the opposition while others want to work with the government or Anwar Ibrahim or Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
