HAZIQ Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who is linked to a brewing sex scandal, was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang by police this evening.

The Malaysian Insight was made to understand by police sources that the suspended principal private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin was picked up about 5.30pm.

The Malaysian Insight is trying to establish with police the reason for Haziq’s detention.

Federal police CID deputy director commissioner Huzir Mohamed confirmed the arrest, adding that police would issue a statement later.

Haziq had earlier this week claimed he was the man in a sex video allegedly showing Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali, which was widely shared on social media on Tuesday.

Haziq subsequently lodged a police report to defend himself from accusations that he had a political agenda behind his sex video confession against the minister.

The report lodged at the Kelana Jaya police station yesterday was confirmed by Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief Fadzil Ahmat to The Malaysian Insight.

Haziq also posted a copy of the report to a Facebook page under his name, with the caption: “You can call me anything you want but I was never raised a liar.”

In the police report, he repeated statements he had made in an earlier post on the same Facebook page, calling Azmin a “sick man” for filming their sexual acts without his consent.

Haziq had claimed he had had mulitiple sexual encounters with Azmin over the past three years.

He had also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate Azmin, who he said was unfit to lead.

The PKR deputy president, when asked if he knew Haziq, had said he only knew the 27-year-old Sarawakian “from afar” and highlighted the latter’s past involvement with Barisan Nasional before joining PKR after Pakatan Harapan won the general election last year.

Azmin has since denied it is him in the video, calling its release a nefarious plot to destroy his political career.

Azmin is also facing calls to take leave from official duties until police investigations into the sex clip are complete.

There have been calls by other PKR Youth grassroots leaders, particularly from Selangor, for Haziq to be suspended from the party.

Earlier today, however, party president Anwar Ibrahim said no action would be taken against deputy president Azmin or Haziq to avoid worsening the situation.

“There are people asking if action should be taken. We discussed this with our lawyers and with the party disciplinary committee.

“We are not taking any action that could stir more problems,” Anwar had said. – June 14, 2019.

  • I am just wondering why only Haziq was called in . What about the partner. ???. Both has to be equally questioned and the truth to be revealed.

  • I'm wondering why, if he's on the run, that he doesn't run first then only post the confession in the fb..... much like why Najib took a while to try to board the special flight out of country....
