POLICE have exhumed the remains of a Bateq tribesman in Kg Kuala Koh, Gua Musang, for a second post-mortem.

Gua Musang police chief Taufik Maidin identified the body as that of 29-year-old Romy Hamdan.

Romy, who was warded at Gua Musang Hospital last month, died on May 29.

The result of the first post-mortem listed the cause of death as pneumonia, and Romy was accorded a Muslim burial.

“He was not placed on a platform like the other 12 villagers who died,” said Taufik.

“The body was brought to Gua Musang Hospital for a second post-mortem about 3.30pm.”

He said the exhumation was carried out with the help of a Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensic team.

The Health Ministry has said two of the 14 reported deaths involving the Bateq community in the past month were due to pneumonia.

Taufik said the authorities are working to identify where the second body was buried.

He said both bodies underwent a post-mortem before burial, adding that police reports were lodged over the deaths.

The government teams deployed to identify sites where 12 bodies of Bateq tribesmen were placed are searching for the remaining four, he added.

“From the information we’ve received, the bodies are located deep in the jungle.

“Some of the places are a three-hour journey by foot. Some require a boat to reach.” – June 13, 2019.
