Back to the gutter

In May 2018 Malaysians voted in Pakatan Harapan but there appears to be concerted efforts to derail the 13-month old government. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, June 12, 2019.

FOURTEEN Orang Asli died recently, felled by a mysterious illness that has no known cause.

There are still malnourished schoolchildren in Putrajaya, there are jobless medical graduates, some states still allow underage brides and the economy is still sour.

But our attention today will be on the alleged Facebook video confession of a political aide confirming he had sex with a minister on the campaign trail in Sabah and urging the authorities to investigate alleged corruption of the said minister.

And all this happening exactly one week after the controversial appointment of Latheefa Koya as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner.

Are both events related? On the face of it, yes, as she was linked to the minister’s faction when she was a PKR member.

Yes, he’s a PKR minister, the political aide is a PKR member and it would seem that party politics trumps everything else as it did in 1998 when Anwar Ibrahim faced the same type of allegations, lost his job and finally jailed.

Here we are again in gutter politics.

Here we are again focused on Malaysia’s game of thrones in a post-Mahathir world.

Here we are again with badly done videos and corruption allegations that seem to be of the same standard as Malay dramas with crooks complete with bad haircuts, fake laughter and orange juice.

The reality is Malaysian politicians need to grow up, they need to know the majority of Malaysians voted for change, be it Pakatan Harapan parties or even PAS, definitely not Barisan Nasional where such sex and graft scandals were the norm.

Malaysians voted for a government that won’t steal or tax them, a government that can solve the middle-income trap, provide healthcare, cut red tape, corruption and generally give them hope if not a better life.

And good governance where the prime minister and cabinet are accountable and show due process for their decisions. Malaysians wanted a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Not one that will still screw the people, if not just themselves.

Perhaps this kind of political shenanigans exist because it’s still the same politicians running the show. And these are the only tactics they know, using homosexuality and graft claims – notwithstanding putting it on Facebook rather than sending grainy 3gp video clips.

But the effect is the same, the police and the MACC will probe into this scandal and Putrajaya has to deal with this, to the detriment of the work ahead for the rest of the PH mandate and manifesto.

This scandal could be true or it could be a lie. But what is certain is that Malaysians will still suffer this gutter politics instead of having a different government solving the issues blighting Malaysia.

A new Malaysia? No, it’s an even older one. – June 12, 2019.

  • Malaysian politicians will grow up when Malaysians do. When will we separate sexual proclivities from the ability to govern or even run a goreng pisang stall for that matter. On a final note its 2019. Were the videos shot with a calculator?

  • It's unbecoming of this bastardly act and hopefully PM would decide the matter judiciously. The way the matter was out and Lokman reporting to police at the lightening speed and the corruption stated for the action to be meted are all in question if this video of Hafiz admitting sleeping with a male partner don't hold water. The timing of the release of this tape is coinciding with the debate on Latifah's appointment to destabilize New Malaysia. There is a strong contention that this brought to light by the members within the party in collaboration with UMNO rascals. It is timely that Lateefa should show her muscles to put this idiots in their proper perspective so that Tun could perform his job with less headaches. This is definitely to divert the attention of the major ongoing cases and other intended appointments once Tun retires. It's unfortunate that PKR is again in the shambles.

  • Why bother with every such incident, private or manufactured, as if national morality is at stake? Don't waste public resources investigating this kind of material: ignore it.

  • I would just like to ask why is the homosexuality / sodomy happening and rampant especially in a particular race of politicians. Are they denoting it that the sexual perversion is their race cup of tea and at ones discretion to be used as political tool for character assination Has the Islamic religious teaching of theirs now in denigration. Be it a lies or a trurh it just reflect that there is no shame in this audacity of act and no holds barred whether it can determine the end result. Now the question to all rakyat is, can the current crop of Malay leaders be reliable and really has what it takes to govern the country. This is not a racial or racist allusion but an honest down to earth reflection . No more pretense and trying to avoid the exhibition of blazing unbecoming idiotic behaviours not once but too many times to let it slide. The PM has to seriously ponder on realisng a good mixed of caliber Cabinet Ministers and clean up rubbish from both political divide. Sickening !!!!!!!. An incurable disease in the DNAs

    • Don't be too harsh lah Bro! Although I agree with your sentiments, let's not get personal. There is no monopoly on gay or heterosexual behaviour among the different ethnicities. If at all the Malay politicians have been singled out it is because of the nature of politics in this country where politics, race, Islam and everything else the Malay/Muslim can be manipulated with to recoil in horror from the protagonist is cunningly used. In the past, it seemed to work but now the people have become desensitised to such comedic endeavours to score brownie points at best or to destroy political careers at worst. It's an insult to every Malaysian if the fortunes of this country depend on the best produced blue films! The surat layang of yore had given way in the late nineties to the gay blue films which I am surprised still seem to have their believers!
