DEFENCE Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has been appointed minister with special function in the Prime Minister’s Department, effective today, the prime minister said today.

Hishammuddin will still retain his defence minister portfolio, Prime Minister Najib Razak said in a statement.

He said the appointment would enable Hishammuddin to carry out other functions on top of his duties as defence minister.

The Prime Minister’s Department has seen a number of ministers with special functions in the past, including Ghazali Shafie (1970-1972), Mohd Asri Muda (1973-1976), Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen Ismail (1973-1976) and Daim Zainuddin (1999-2001). – April 12, 2017.
