POLICE officers, including district chiefs have been again warned to stop collecting funds for Hari Raya, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said in a statement today.
He said he had already given prior warning for such a practice to stop but found that it was still be done among officers, including district chiefs.
“They are asking their subordinates to collect money, claiming that it is for Hari Raya activities.
“Even more disgusting are reports that they claim these funds are to be given to the asnaf (zakat recipients).
Hamid, who was appointed IGP in May, has taken a tough stance on the involvement of police officers in illicit activities.
Soon after assuming the post last month, he pledged to clean up corrupt practices within the force, singling out officers who dealt with syndicates and warning them to cut any ties they had with the underworld.
At the same time, he has also been visiting police stations around the country to check on officers’ welfare and to get their buy-in for the government’s proposed Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC). – June 3, 2019.
