SULTAN of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah today summoned the leaders of six political parties to a meeting, following complaints of politicians hosting Ramadan programmes at the mosque and surau.

Sources said political leaders from Bersatu, Amanah, PKR, DAP, Umno and PAS met with the ruler at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar at 4pm today.

The leaders in attendance included state Bersatu chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu of Bersatu, state Amanah chief Asmuni Awi, state PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, state DAP adviser Ngeh Koo Ham, state Umno liaison chief Saarani Mohamad and state PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria.

Complaints that Muslim places of worship have recently hosted events organised by politicians have reached the Perak sultan, who wished to make it clear that there is to be no politicking in the mosque and surau, a source told The Malaysian Insight.

This means no political or religious speeches by politicians and no banners directly or indirectly promoting political parties, said the source.

The elected reps were informed that they may go to the mosque or surau to hand over contributions, said the source, and that non-Muslims are allowed at these places as long as they are properly attired. – May 25, 2019.
