PAS Youth is demanding action against the administrator of Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin’s Facebook page.
The administrator recently posted photos of suspects who allegedly torched Asri’s car on the latter’s Facebook page.
As the suspects were photographed with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, the crime became linked to the Islamist party.
Although the post has since been deleted, with Asri also apologising for the misunderstanding caused, PAS Youth said it is not enough.
The wing’s vice-chief Ahmad Fadli Shaari said Asri must act against the administrator, whose identity should also be revealed.
The party should also consider legal action against the administrator, Fadli said.
“The photos of the three Jabatan Amal Malaysia members, who were arrested for their statements, were uploaded on the mufti’s Facebook as if they are already guilty.
“(The administrator) has gone too far. It is inappropriate, especially considering Asri’s position. Because of this, an apology is not enough,” Fadli said.
Asri apologised last night on behalf of his FB page, saying the post might have created the wrong perception prior to the completion of police investigations.
Asri’s car was torched on March 22. In the incident, two men were caught on CCTV setting fire to the the black Honda Accord on Jalan Persiaran Wawasan in Kangar.
It was also reported that there were plans to splash acid on the popular mufti’s face.
Police recently arrested and remanded members of the Unit Amal, PAS’ volunteer corps, to assist investigations into the case.
Last Saturday, police also detained a 36-year-old unemployed man, who admitted he was paid to torch Asri’s car together with another man known as Mie Tomoi, who is still at large. – May 23, 2019.
