THE Perlis mufti has apologised for the misunderstanding caused by a Facebook post linking the suspects who torched his car to PAS.

The administrator of Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin’s FB page had uploaded photos of the suspects with the Islamist party’s president, Abdul Hadi Awang.

Asri took to the social media platform to say just because Hadi had been photographed with the suspects, it did not mean that the PAS leader agreed with their actions.

“The photos show the two suspects with the PAS president. Although the photos were sourced from the suspects’ Facebook pages, they can be easily misinterpreted. This is uncalled for.

“I would like to apologise on behalf of this FB page if it had created the wrong perception prior to the completion of police investigations,” he said, adding that it is wise to wait for cops to conclude their probe.

Asri said he believes Hadi would not have given such malicious directives.

“Other parties, including Unit Amal, should be investigated,” he said, referring to PAS’ volunteer corps.

Earlier, Unit Amal questioned Asri and his aides’ motives for linking the suspects to the party.

Its director, Mohd Nazree Mohd Aris, said the administrator of Asri’s FB page falsely linked PAS members to the car-torching incident.

He said members were arrested yesterday, and have been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations into the March 22 arson. – May 22, 2019.
