FIVE police officers, who are attached to the Petaling Jaya district police station, were arrested early today for allegedly robbing a moneychanger on Sunday.

Sources told The Malaysian Insight that a hunt is now under way for a senior police officer attached to the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

The five arrested had earlier posed as commercial crime officers from Bukit Aman and confronted the money changer for operating without a licence.

They demanded RM200,000 from the victim to “settle the case”.

“The five are from the Sea Park police station in Petaling Jaya while the money changer’s outlet is at Bangunan Cahaya Suria in Kuala Lumpur,” the source said.

“The victim managed to collect the RM200,000 from friends which he handed over to the rogue police officers at an undisclosed location in Kuala Lumpur.”

According to the source, among the five arrested were a 32-year-old inspector and a 31-year-old sergeant from the Petaling Jaya narcotics investigation department.

The other three police officers were from the Sea Park station.

All five were arrested at 4pm at the Mutiara Damansara police station after the incident was caught by a CCTV.

“Investigators ascertain their identities after getting the footage from a CCTV that is installed at the premises.

“A team from the Dang Wangi heavy crime unit detained the five at the station,” the source said.

Meanwhile, police are also looking for three men who were at the premises on the day of the incident.

The three men claimed to be officers from Bank Negara, the source said. – May 21, 2019.

  • Why are there so many bad apples in the police force these days? How did the top brass of the force allow this to happen? It speaks poorly of the top brass that did not keep tight discipline in the force.

    • It has been happening for quite sometime. It is only now with the PH government that actions are being taken against them.
