FINANCE Minister Lim Guan Eng has slammed PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan for vilifying Anwar Ibrahim and disrespecting the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s decision to pardon the PKR president.

In a tweet today, Lim who is also DAP secretary-general, chided Takiyuddin for saying that Anwar was unfit to become prime minister because of his past conviction.

“Disrespecting the DYMM YDP Agong and His Majesty the Sultan of his own state? Full pardon has been given and @anwaribrahim’s criminal record has been cleared. He is no longer a convict.”

In May last year, Anwar who was jailed for sodomy received a pardon from then Agong Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan.

Anwar was serving a five-year jail sentence since February 2015 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence on a charge of sodomising former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

“Don’t tell me a lawyer doesn’t understand this,” Lim said while referring to Takiyuddin’s profession.

“Who went against the monarchy now?”

He added that PAS is only vilifying and spreading lies against the innocent.

Malaysiakini quoted Takiyuddin as asking the crowd during a ceramah in Sandakan if whether they wanted an ex-convict as their future premier.

“There is someone who dreams to be a prime minister. When he got out of prison, I don’t know how he got a pardon from the Agong.”

The PAS leader claimed that Anwar had contested the Port Dickson by-election by forcing the then incumbent, Danial Balagopal, out.

“As a lawyer, we know that when someone comes out from prison, his status for life is a convict.” – May 11, 2019.
