ROADSIDE traders will be gone from the streets of Kuala Lumpur by 2020, the Federal Territories minister announced, adding they would either be relocated or will have to operate from food trucks.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was quoted by NST Online saying  traders would no longer be allowed to cook by the roadside.

They will have to prepare their food elsewhere before selling them at the premises provided by the authorities.

“Right now, there are thousands of roadside traders in the Federal Territory. The move will involve hawkers selling banana fritters or nasi lemak by the roadside, all of whom will be relocated,” he said.

Tengku Adnan also said the traders would be given an upgrade under a new system, apart from business premises.

Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress president Syed Ibrahim Kader said the move would help improve traffic flow in the city and prevent many food-borne illnesses and health problems such as food poisoning. – September 20, 2017.
