PAKATAN Harapan must fulfil what it promised in its election manifesto to continue gaining the support of the people for the next few years, said Anwar Ibrahim.

The PKR president said the coalition must not let pressure and surprises derail its main focus, which is the promises in the manifesto.

“We must tackle all the issues head on and not forget the commitment to the people.

“I believe that if the leadership is clean, transparent and fair and not arrogant like the previous administration, then the people will continue to support PH as the government for the next few years,” he said at the DAP National Conference 2019 in Shah Alam today.

The PKR leader’s comments come as recent polls show the ruling coalition’s popularity taking a sharp dive as it approached its first anniversary in Putrajaya.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s popularity dropped to 46% from 71% recorded last August, said pollster Merdeka Centre based on its latest survey.

The survey also showed that only 39% of Malaysian voters gave the PH federal government positive ratings.

Anwar said that, very soon, PH would have spent one year as the government which is helmed by Dr Mahathir.

“PH must be steadfast and strong and we must continue to give our support to Dr Mahathir to carry out the agenda and promises to the people.

“We will continue to carry out the promises in the manifesto,” he said.

Anwar also said that the elite and those in power should not only focus on the people in the urban areas.

“The government should also focus on the farmers, fishermen and those working in the estate,” he said. – May 5, 2019.

  • Also PH must manage the electorates unrealistic expectations by providing timelines and progress reports regularly. PR must be given into professional hands and streamlined to prevent Ministers encroaching on the remit of other Ministers. Public debate must be led by real facts made available to the public rather than taken over by opposition fabrications. 4 years to fix it - now the leakages are being stopped the country will feel the benefit.
