Malay unity meet to focus on liberalism, Christianity

Malay groups are ready to fight for their rights and issues, says Ummah, such as opposing human rights treaties like ICERD and the Rome Statute which will impinge on Islam and royalty. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, August 15, 2019.

THE rise of liberalism, Christianity and efforts to destroy race relations are among the topics to be raised at the Malay unity convention on August 25, said its organisers.

Chairman of Gerakan Pembela Ummah (Ummah) Aminuddin Yahaya said these issues are more important for the future of Malay unity than the ongoing controversy over khat lessons in primary schools.

Aminuddin, however, said the convention to be held in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur is not to cause racial tension in the country, nor to provoke other races.

“The issues raised by groups like Dong Zong on the teaching of khat lessons are small compared to the other fundamental issues.

“We need to address issues of liberalism, Christianity as well as attempts to amend laws. These are the threats now,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

He said the proposed amendments to certain laws as announced by Pakatan Harapan earlier this year would have an impact on the rights and privileges of Malays and Islam.

Among the laws that the government wants to amend include the Sedition Act and Communications and Multimedia Act, to remove penalising people for expressing their views.

Malay groups have warned previously that such freedom would allow people to comment on the Malays, Islam and royalty.

Aminuddin said the convention also wants to unite Muslims.

“The theme is unity as we feel there are threats against the Malay race and religion, and we are divided,” he said.

Others are taking advantage of the rift among the Malays today to fight for their rights and issues, he said.

“We are powerless to defend our race and religion because we are divided. When we unite, we will become stronger.”

The gathering will also see the participation of Malay leaders and intellects, including leaders of political parties.

This is the second time Ummah is organising such an event, the first being in January 2018. – August 15, 2019.

  • Did this person suggest Christianity is a threat? Really? Without Christianity there would be fewer schools for the disadvantaged, orphanages, food programmes for the destitute and so on.

  • Even in Christianity, there are conservative Christians and liberal Christians. I prefer the liberal Christians because they live more harmoniously with everybody else.

  • Threats.Threats.Threats. Thats what they always think about instead of enhancing themselves to be more competitive in this borderless digital world. Everyone else are moving very fast to acquire knowledge to enrich themselves and to be able to compete with the outside world.

  • The biggest threat is your own closed and narrow minds in a multi racial and multi religious society. The next biggest threat is your mindset of overdependence on the government for hand out, benefits and advantages. If only you start living in the real world where no one owes you a living and that every is equal before the law, then all will be well. The Christians are such a minority in the Peninsula and are being bullied yet made a scapegoat for your own personal failures. There is a law against proselytisation and Christians are aware of the law. If any Christian flout the law, then take action against the individual. Stop categorizing the entire religion as a threat and creating a religious tension out of the empty and baseless allegations. At the meeting, all the baseless accusations cannot be retorted. Is that fair and is that healthy? Hate speeches will be the order of the day

  • Instead of taking time off from whatever you do for your convention, why dont you guys go out and get a job or be productive?

You can come together, have your convention, sing kumbayah, feel good about the identifying your imaginary enemies..

And then youd demand for your crutches... designed from the hard work of everyone else. Your grads cannot get jobs, and the govt no longer has the capacity to keep up absorbing you guys into the civil service.

Unless of course, youre looking forward to get exported as maids ...
