MALAYSIA should not trouble itself by regularising undocumented migrants in Sabah but have them repatriated, said a Sabah opposition leader today.

Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku president Jeffrey Kitingan said the Sabah government should focus on dealing with undocumented migrants in accordance to the constitution and immigration laws.

By sending them back, he said, the migrants can re-enter Sabah with passports and work permits.

“For so long the federal and state governments have shown little political will to round them up and send them home.

“Is the federal government so buried under the many financial and administrative problems that it can no longer act to stem the tide of this possible threat?” he said in a statement issued in Kota Kinabalu.

The proposed threat that Jeffrey is referring to is the so-called reverse takeover of the state by undocumented migrants from Sabahans if Putrajaya decides to regularise them.

Foreigners make up a third of 1,158,300 of the 3.9 million Sabah population and about 70% of them are illegal migrants, according to the State Immigration Department.

To this, Jeffrey said the Malaysian government should not waste resources by regularising the undocumented Filipinos and Indonesians, but let the two countries deal with their own nationals. – May 4, 2019

  • Jeffrey is right. First thing Shafie Apdal should do is round up all illegals in a massive exercise and deport them. Get the support of Dr M. If the Sabah CM himself is not committed in addressing this growing problem in the state, then not only the State suffers but also the Sabahans.
If the state wants to enjoy sustainable economic growth, if Sabahans want jobs (unemployment rate is highest in Sabah compared to all other states in the country), then there must be concerted efforts and commitment by the CM in eradicating unemployment through strategic sustainable development. Develop you own existing economies. You have resources, just being in the expertise which you can find locally to develop your local economies in Sandakan, Sipitang, Sindumin, and other regions. This will spur economic activities and create numerous job opportunities and ultimately bringbenefits to the people of Sabah.
I have been reading articles of Sabah trying to attract the Chinese to come and invest theirs billions. Dont be hoodwinked by the Chinese business model. You will end up being indebted to the Chinese in the long term.. Just look at Sri Lanka, African countries.. They are all heavily indebted. The Chinese concept is different.. for all their investment, they making 100 folds in capital and profits and the money is repatriated back to China. More then 70% of the contractors for the Chinese projects are from China. Even the tea lady will be from China.. So how and what will you benefit from all the investments in Sabah?! You will earn peanuts. Be smart Shafie Apdal. Learn from past mistakes..
