OUTGOING Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun has expressed confidence in the ability of his acting deputy, Abdul Hamid Bador, to lead the force.

Speaking to the press ahead of his retirement on Saturday, Fuzi urged police senior officers to support Hamid as the new IGP.

“I congratulate him and I hope police, especially the senior officers, will support him as the IGP as they did me,” he said.

Asked if Hamid’s reputed “no-nonsense” approach would cause disunity among police ranks, Fuzi said every officer would abide by the government’s decision.

“I don’t think that is an issue. Every one of us will abide by the decision. I am also confident that Hamid will be able to carry out his duty smoothly as the No. 1 cop,” Fuzi said.

Fuzi said he will discuss with Hamid on the deputy IGP post.

“Hamid will have to decide on that. I will meet him to talk about it and not just on the DIG post but also who would take over his post as Special Branch director,” Fuzi said. – May 2, 2019.
