PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has unofficially confirmed that Abdul Hamid Bador will be the new inspector-general of police.

Dr Mahathir said this when questioned by reporters on who would succeed Mohamad Fuzi Harun, who ends his service on Saturday.

“Yes, I think it will be him,” he said briefly when asked if it would be Hamid who is now the acting deputy police chief.

Dr Mahathir said that he believed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has already signed the letter of appointment for Hamid.

Fuzi turns 60 and retires on May 4. He was appointed as the 11th inspector-general of police on September 4, 2017, replacing Khalid Abu Bakar. – May 1, 2019.

  • The Star paper straight away published: "Dr M: Hanid Bador is the New IGP".
    This Star has lost its crediibility in reporting. It either spin or twist the words to confuse its readers.
    The PM only said he thinks and he believes the letter of appointment has been signed.
